Homemade tomato soup with garden fresh tomatoes

A seasonal treat

I love tomato soup, but it has to be homemade!

Very easy to make, especially when they are in season,ripe and juicy, right from the garden!

If you don’t have a garden look for a farm nearby, or ever a little further out in the country, it’s a great outdoor activity to do on a beautiful day with the family!

Don’t forget to touch base from time to time with the soil and get dirty, it is healthy and fun! The kids will love the experience and they will pick vegetables right from the plant and taste and feel the difference, pure pleasure!And an education, they will get to see the place of birth of the glorious tomato!

Here is my recipe for the tomato soup!


  • Ingredients
  • 8 cups chopped fresh tomatoes
  • 2 sticks of celery
  • 1 cup fresh basil
  • 2 onions sliced
  • 4 cloves garlic
  • ¼ cup olive oil
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • 2 cups water
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • ¼ tsp red pepper flakes
  • 1 tsp sugar

Here is how

Tomatoes have to be nice and ripe. Place them in hot water for a few minutes and remove the skin. Cut them and measure them.

In a heavy pot, add, the olive oil, butter, sliced onions and garlic.

Sauté for a few minutes and add the rest of the ingredients.

Gently boil for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.

At this point use a hand blender and purée your tomato soup.

If the seeds bother you pass your tomato soup through a strainer…..

Taste your tomato soup and make any adjustments to satisfy your taste.
