Newsletter, February 2009, news from Litsa "February is Taking care of our Heart month."
Protecting our heart should be a priority, but it’s the last thing on our mind until it is too late.
The most important organ in our body is usually overlooked, our little heart, the muscle that keeps us alive by working very hard and continually is neglected and most of the times abused.
I really don’t get it; we treat our hearts as if we had a few of them and if something happened to one,
a spare would come to the rescue.
We all know it does not work like that we only have one heart and we must respect it and protect it because no one else will.
For the better health of our heart the right nutrients are essential.
Fish is recommended for the omega-3 fatty acids, which can help lower blood pressure.
This is vital because our bodies can’t produce this kind of fat, so we need to get it from food.
Salmon, herring mackerel, trout are excellent choices for omega-3 fat.
We should eat at least 2 Servings of fish a week.
Nuts are great for protecting us against blood clots, almonds, pecans, peanuts, walnuts are delicious snacks and give us an added omega-3 boost.
Vegetables, colorful vegetables like broccoli all the different peppers, carrots, spinach and fruits like tomatoes, oranges, strawberries are all heart healthy choices.
Legumes like beans, lentils, chick peas, and black beans lower bad cholesterol and increase good cholesterol.
A glass of good red wine is a must for the health of our dear heart.
So let’s make it a priority and resolve to love our hearts and cherish them.
Here is a very simple way to prepare Salmon and my favorite way to enjoy it.
